Under the new Cyprus Filming Scheme, producers and media companies are encouraged to take advantage of Cyprus's terrain and infrastructure as well as a number of legal, corporate, and financial incentives for filming in Cyprus. A number of incentives are included in the Cyprus Filming Scheme to promote the filming and production of movies and other audiovisual content in Cyprus. In addition to a tax deduction for infrastructure improvements and a VAT return on expenditure, applicants have the option of receiving tax credits or cash rebates.
A special committee made up of senior officials from the Ministries of Education and Culture, Finance, and Tourism, as well as a senior officer chosen by the Board of Directors of Invest Cyprus, will review the applications.
Which companies qualify
Private sector businesses operating in Cyprus directly or through a branch office that have been registered in Cyprus or any other EU member state are eligible.
Which productions qualify
The incentives provided by the Scheme can help a variety of audiovisual contents. There are many types of content that qualify even though it is a necessity that all audiovisual productions promote Cyprus culture and the island as a whole. Before any filming can begin, the Committee must pre-approve all productions.
